Renault Kiger (HBC Compact SUV) Launch in July 2020

French automaker, Renault will launch the much-awaited sub-4 meter compact SUV, codenamed HBC, in the Indian market this year. Rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger, the compact SUV will take on the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV300. A new media report claims that the HBC compact SUV will be launched in July 2020.

The Renault Kiger will be based on the CMF-A+ modular platform, which also underpins the Triber MPV. This platform will also underpin the Nissan’s upcoming compact SUV, codenamed EM2. Likely to be called the Nissan Magnite, the sub-4 meter SUV will be launched this year. The report further claims that the Kiger and the Magnite will be the most affordable SUVs to feature sunroof in India.

Renault HBC Launch

The new Renault Kiger will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (Codenamed HR10). This engine is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the SUV will get a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit. This engine will also power the Nissan Magnite. The sub-4 meter SUV is likely to ride on large 16-inch alloy wheels, and will have a high ground clearance.

The interior design, mostly the dashboard, instrument console and the central panel will be shared with the Triber MPV. Similar to the MPV sibling, the Renault Kiger is expected to offer excellent interior packaging. The SUV will be equipped with features like multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and connected car technology. The Kiger is expected to be the most affordable SUV in its category. It is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8.5 lakh, undercutting all its rivals.
