In June 2020, the South Korean carmaker managed to sell 7,114 units of the Kia Seltos compact SUV and 161 units of the Carnival premium MPV. The company’s total sales figure stood at 7,275 units, thus making it the fifth largest carmaker in the country. Kia Motors India recently added 10 new safety and connectivity features to the Seltos model lineup.
Despite the update, the 2020 Kia Seltos outnumbered by its arch rival – Hyundai Creta – that witnessed a generation change in March, 2020. The all-new Creta recorded a total sales of 7,207 units, which is marginally (93 units) higher than the Seltos’ sales figure. While the former became India’s top selling SUV in the previous month, the latter secured the second spot.
The 2020 Kia Seltos has been priced between Rs 9.89 lakh (for the entry-level HTE 1.5L petrol variant) – Rs 17.34 lakh (for the top-end GTX+ diesel automatic model). With the update, the carmaker has discontinued two variants from the GT Line range – GTK and GTK DCT. Both variants have been dropped from the lineup due to their low demand. Now, the Seltos comes in a total of 16 variants and three BS6-compliant engine options.
The South Korean carmaker is also working on electric iteration of the Kia Seltos SUV. Though, there is no official word on its India launch. The Seltos electric will first arrive in the Chinese market, followed by other global markets. Kia’s Jiangsu provision based facility will serve as production hub for the electric SUV. It’s reported to enter into production in August, 2020.
In India, the company will bring in the all-new Kia Sonet subcompact SUV in August-October period. Kia has confirmed that the Sonet will be loaded with several segment-first features including clutchless manual gearbox, a massive 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and more. The sub-4 meter SUV will come with both petrol and diesel engines that will be sourced from the Hyundai Venue.
