Nissan Kicks Production Begins

Production of the Nissan Kicks has been started at the company’s Chennai based plant.

Nissan India has officially started production of the new Kicks SUV at its Chennai based plant. The new model is scheduled to be launched in January 2019. We will be driving the Kicks SUV soon and will bring you a detailed road test review on our YouTube Channel – ICN Studio.

Commenting on the announcement, Thomas Kuehl, President, Nissan India Operations said, “We are excited to announce the start-of-production of New Nissan KICKS at our plant in Chennai. We had recently showcased the New Nissan KICKS which has created a lot of buzz and excitement amongst SUV enthusiasts across the country. Designed to appeal to the new-age urban adventure seeker, the KICKS is a testimony to our commitment to the Indian consumers and also reflects the SUV heritage of Nissan.”

The Nissan Kicks for India shares engine and platform with the Renault Captur SUV. In the compact SUV space, the Kicks will challenge the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the Tata Harrier. The Kicks is bigger than its closest rival Creta. It is around 114mm longer, 33mm wider and 26mm taller than the Creta. The Nissan Kicks will be equipped with a range of segment-first features like Around View Monitor 360-degree camera and a telematic-enabled smartwatch. The SUV will be offered with 2 engine options – 1.5-litre K9K diesel and 1.5-litre petrol. While the former is good for 108bhp and 240Nm of torque, the gasoline unit produces 105bhp and 142Nm of torque. Transmission options include 6-speed manual, 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
