New Maruti Suzuki Swift – All You Need To Know

The continuous decline in hatchback and sedan sales have forced automakers to rethink their product strategy for the fast growing Indian auto industry. With rising economy, car buyers are now ready to shed extra to drive home a more premium and feature-loaded SUVs. Automakers are also introducing SUVs in the Indian market to drive sales. However, Maruti Suzuki has announced that it will continue to sell hatchbacks and will introduce multiple new models in the coming days. The company is also preparing an all-new electric hatchback, which is expected to be launched sometime in 2026. The next big launch from MSIL is the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, which debuted in Japan last year.

MSIL has yet to reveal the exact launch timeline for the new Swift hatchback. However, media reports reveal that the production of the new Swift will commence in February 2024. It is expected that the new hatchback will go on sale by March 2024.

The current generation Swift is available in the price bracket of Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). With the new model, Maruti Suzuki will add more features and better quality material and fit & finish. We expect the new Swift to cost somewhere between Rs 6.25 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

New Swift Design

The new-gen Suzuki Swift hatchback is based on the heavily modified HEARTECT platform, which will also underpin the new gen Dzire sub-4 meter sedan. The company claims to have used lightweight, high-strength ultra-high tensile steel plates over a wide range of areas. In terms of proportions, the hatchback is 3,860mm in length, 1695mm in width and 1,500mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. Compared to the current model, the new Swift is 15mm longer, while the width and height reduced by 40mm and 30mm respectively. The hatchback offers a boot space of 265-litres, which can be further extended by folding the second-row seat.

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift retains the original silhouette; however, it has received several new design elements. It comes with a sharper front fascia, which has a slightly smaller, aggressive grille and an all-new LED headlamps. The current model has C-pillar mounted door handles, which are not offered in the new Swift. It comes with a more conventional door handles. The new-gen Swift hatchback features new set of alloy wheels, and a newly styled tailgate design with inverted C-shaped LED tail-lights, black bumper inserts and others.

The new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with an all-new interior, which is heavily inspired from the Fronx crossover and the Baleno hatchback. It features an all-new dashboard layout with a new dual-tone black/beige interior scheme. The hatchback comes fitted with a flat-bottom steering wheel, toggle switches for climate controls, and analogue dials. It is equipped with analogue dials with MID, automatic air conditioning, keyless entry, push-button start-stop, reverse parking camera, seat height & rear heater duct, remote storage door mirror, etc.

The all-new Suzuki Swift is fitted with a brand’s new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which we have already seen on the new Baleno, Fronx, Grand Vitara and the Brezza. This infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. It is equipped with several easy-to-use storage spaces including glove box, center console tray, centre console during holders, centre console drink holder in rear, front door pocket and rear door plastic bottle holder, etc.

The Japanese-spec model is equipped with advanced driver assistance system with features including adaptive cruise control, Lane assist, sign recognition function, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and driver monitoring system. However, the ADAS tech is not likely to be offered on the India-spec model. It is likely to receive six airbags (top-end variant), ABS with EBD, brake assist, etc.

The new Swift will also mark the debut of Suzuki’s new 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine. The hatchback is available with both petrol and hybrid petrol powertrains. It features a 1.2-litre, 12V, DOHC engine that is capable of producing 82bhp at 5700rpm and a peak torque of 108Nm at 4,500rpm. The mild-hybrid version has a DC synchronous motor, which offers an additional power and torque outputs of 3.1bhp and 60Nm, respectively.

Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a new CVT automatic gearbox. It is expected that the India-spec model could also get an AMT option. The hybrid version is claimed to offer a fuel economy of 24.5kmpl, while the regular model is rated at 23.4kmpl.
