Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, is strategically expanding its SUV market presence with a lineup of new models. The company’s plan includes an electric SUV based on the eVX concept, a premium 7-seater SUV, a three-row electric MPV, and a micro MPV. The forthcoming Maruti 7-seater SUV, codenamed Y17, is anticipated to launch in early 2025 (January or February) and will compete with the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.
The Y17 model will mark a significant milestone as the first vehicle to be produced at Maruti Suzuki’s new Kharkhoda-based facility. Sharing its platform, design elements, features, and powertrains with its 5-seater counterpart, the SUV will utilize Suzuki’s global C architecture and offer the 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrain options.
The mild hybrid setup on the Grand Vitara boasts a claimed power output of 103bhp, achieving mileage figures of 21.1kmpl and 19.38kmpl with manual and automatic transmissions, respectively. Meanwhile, the strong hybrid model delivers a power output of 115bhp and an impressive fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl.
Positioned as a longer and more spacious alternative to its 5-seater sibling, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV is expected to offer additional features, enhancing its appeal as a premium and value-for-money offering. Initial estimates suggest a pricing range of around Rs 15 lakh for the base variant, rising to approximately Rs 25 lakh for the fully-loaded top-end trim.
Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the new-generation Maruti Swift and Dzire. Both models are slated to enter production this month, with their market launch to follow. The 2024 Swift and Dzire promise significant improvements in styling, upmarket interiors, and introduce a new Z-Series petrol engine known for its enhanced fuel efficiency and performance.
