Homegrown passenger carmaker, Tata Motors has released a series of new teaser images on its social media platform. The exact details about the product are yet to be revealed, but Tata claims that the futuristic concept will debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is expected that the new concept will preview the brand’s upcoming mid-sized SUV, codenamed Blackbird. Few reports claim that the new teaser previews the H2X concept, which was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

  • The new Tata Blackbird SUV could be based on the Chery Tiggo 5X SUV.
  • It will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier.
  • The Blackbird will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Kicks
  • It will be launched in our market in 2021.

The Tata Blackbird will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier, and will challenge the likes of the Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming new Hyundai Creta SUV. It is expected that the Tata Blackbird based mid-sized SUV could be launched in our market in 2021.

If media reports are to be believed, Tata Motors is using the Chinese Chery Tiggo 5X as the benchmark for the new SUV’s development. The new Tata SUV could be the re-badged version of the Tiggo 5X. It was speculated that the Tata Blackbird will be based on the new ALFA modular platform that underpins the Altroz. However, this platform can accommodate models under 4.3 meters in length and the Blackbird is expected to cross this mark. On the other hand, the OMEGA ARC platform will be expensive for a compact SUV. The Blackbird could use the Tiggo’s platform.

The Tata H2X micro SUV will be the brand’s second product to be based on the new ALFA modular platform, which underpins the Altroz hatchback. It will challenge the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Renault Kwid 1.0. The mini SUV will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine producing 85bhp and 113Nm of torque.
