Czech automaker, Skoda will unveil the much-awaited locally-developed Vision IN SUV concept in India tomorrow. This concept will also mark the debut of the brand’s new MQB AO IN platform, which will underpin a wide range of Skoda and Volkswagen cars in India. Skoda will also reveal the Karoq 5-seater premium SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in April 2020.

MQB AO IN Platform

The Vision IN concept based SUV is basically the Indianized version of the Skoda Kamiq SUV, which is on sale in select international markets. It is based on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Volkswagen AO mid-sized SUV for India. The new Vision IN based SUV will be locally developed with over 90 percent local components. The Vision IN SUV concept will measure 4.26 meters in length, which is similar to the Brazilian-spec VW T-Cross.

The SUV will share design highlights with the Kamiq SUV; however, it comes with India-specific changes. The SUV gets a bolder and more upright front, featuring signature chrome-embellished grille and split projector headlamps. The bumper has large air intakes and a three slot skid plate. Plastic cladding all around the body, prominent roof rails and large alloys give it a bolder profile. At the back, the SUV gets crystal-like LED tail-lights and a light strip that runs across the width of the SUV, along with a three-slot skid plate.

The concept SUV interior’s also has similarities with the Kamiq SUV. It features orange inserts that suits well with the dark grey interior theme. There is a large 9.2-inch free-floating touchscreen infotainment system and a virtual cock-pit. It also gets touch interface for the climate control in the central console tunnel. It gets flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Petrol Only Model

The Skoda Vision IN based SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which will offer 130PS of maximum power. It will also receive a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is good for 115PS and 200Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic.

Launch Timeline

Production of the Vision IN SUV will commence in the end of 2020, while launch will take place in early 2021. It will directly rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Nissan Kicks.
