New Maruti Ertiga & WagonR Launch Timeline Revealed

New Maruti Ertiga 2018

While the Ertiga MPV will first go on sale during Diwali, around November, the new WagonR will be launched in the first quarter of 2019.

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki will launch a range of new cars in the next 2-3 years. The company will launch the new Ertiga and WagonR hatchback before the March 2019. While the MPV will first go on sale during Diwali, around November, the new WagonR will be launched in the first quarter of 2019. Besides these two, the Indo-Japanese maker will launch the updated Baleno hatch and an all-new micro SUV based on the Future S concept in 2019.

Few dealers have already started taking pre-orders for the new Ertiga at Rs 50,000. However, the launch has been pushed back to November from the earlier planned in October. The company will continue to sell the current Ertiga for fleet market, and will be called the ‘Ertiga Tour’. The new model will use the Suzuki’s new-gen HEARTECT platform and is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model.

Instead of the current 94bhp, 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine, the new Ertiga will receive a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine. This engine is coupled to Suzuki’s new SHVS mild hybrid technology. It is capable of producing 103bhp and 138Nm of torque, which makes it around 10bhp more powerful than the existing model. Diesel model will continue to feature the 1.3-litre MJD unit; however, the new Ertiga will receive a new in-house developed 1.5-litre unit in late 2019.

Maruti Suzuki has already started testing the new-gen WagonR hatchback on Indian streets. Codenamed YCA, the new model will have different design and engine specifications from the Japan-spec variant. Speculations are on rife that the new WagonR will use the Ignis platform, which is also the HEARTECT platform. However, few reports suggest that the new model will be based on the modified version of existing platform. The new WagonR will be powered by the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, K-Series petrol engine that is good for 67bhp and 90Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT versions will be on offer.
