New Mahindra Thar Retains Old Design Elements – Spied

Homegrown UV maker, Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited new-gen Thar SUV in mid-2020, around July-August. It seems like Mahindra is ready to start dispatching the new model to dealerships, as the new Thar has been spotted with white plastic cover. This white plastic cover is usually applied to a newly developed vehicle to be dispatched to dealerships.

The second generation Mahindra Thar has been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads. The latest spy image reveals the design details of the new model. It is clearly visible that the new Thar retains the old-school classic design with new modern design highlights. The new model will come with a factory-fitted hard top version.

2020 Mahindra Thar Launch Date

The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be based on the new ZEN3 ladder-frame chassis, which also underpins the current Scorpio. The SUV comes with new body panels and different cladding. The new model will ride on newly designed blackened 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps as optional and traditional grille.

The majority of the changes will be made inside the cabin, which will be more premium and feature-loaded. It will come with all-new dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include manual air-conditioning, power-folding ORVMs and multiple USB ports. The SUV will also gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert and speed belt alert as standard safety features. The touchscreen equipped variant will also receive a rear parking camera. The top-end variants will also receive front-facing second row of seats.

The new-gen Mahindra Thar will be powered by a new diesel engine, which is likely to produce around 140bhp of power. A six-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard, while an automatic unit will come on a later stage. The SUV will also receive a new petrol engine, which is likely to be the 1.5-litre turbocharged mStallion unit producing 163bhp. Mahindra could also use the 190bhp, 2.0L turbocharged engine. The new model will directly rival the all-new Force Gurkha, which is likely to be launched in May-June 2020.
