We have reported earlier that the South Korean carmaker is planning to foray into MPV space in the Indian market. Currently, the company is conducting feasibility study for the product. If reports are to be believed, Hyundai might bring in a premium MPV to challenge the newly-launched Kia Carnival. Here’re the 5 important facts about the new Hyundai MPV that we know so far.
1. Bigger Than Innova Crysta
In terms of dimensions, the new Hyundai MPV will be bigger than the Toyota Innova Crysta. Its size might be equal to the Kia Carnival that measures 5115mm in length, 1985mm in width and 1740mm-1755mm in height.
2. New Platform
Reports suggest that the Hyundai Starex MPV, which is already on sale in South Korea and Indonesia, might be introduced in the Indian market. Globally, the vehicle had received a generation change in 2007, followed by a major facelift in 2018. Now, the Starex is ready to enter into its third-generation with comprehensive upgrades. In fact, the carmaker has started testing its prototype in South Korea. The all-new model will be based on the new-generation N3 platform, which is already used in the new Kia Sorento SUV and next-generation Carnival.
3. Key Features
The latest spy pictures confirm that the new-generation Hyundai Starex will feature split LED headlamps, a wide radiator grille, more curvaceous front end and A-pillar. There will be sliding doors for the second row passengers. It might also get semi-autonomous driving technology. Features such as a 360 degree camera, a freestanding 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, double swing rear door, 17-inch alloys and LED taillamps will also be on offer.
4. Turbo Diesel Engine
The new Hyundai MPV is likely to be offered with a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine sourced from the Kia Carnival. The motor, paired to a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, pushes out a peak power of 197bhp and 440Nm of torque. The vehicle will come with front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. 5. Expected Launch
There is no official word about its India launch timeline. Though, the reports suggest that the Hyundai Starex might hit our shores sometime in 2021.
