BS6 Hyundai Elantra Diesel Shares Engine With New Creta
In October last year, the South Korean carmaker rolled out the Hyundai Elantra facelift with BS6-compliant petrol engine only. Now, the carmaker is planning to add the diesel powertrain to the sedan model lineup. Prior to any official announcement, details of the BS6 Hyundai Elantra diesel have emerged on the web.
As per the leaked document, the Elantra diesel will share its engine with the second-generation Hyundai Creta. The sedan will receive the BS6-compliant 1.5L, 4-cylinder motor that’s good enough for 112bhp and 250Nm of torque. The S and SX diesel trims will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The higher SX and SX (O) trims, on the other hand, will come with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Currently, the Elantra is available with a BS6 2.0L, 4-cylinder petrol engine pushing out a peak power of 150bhp against 192Nm of torque. It can be either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Prices of the petrol models start from Rs 15.89 lakh and go up to Rs 20.39 lakh. The diesel variants are likely to be priced between Rs 16 lakh – Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s likely to launch after the lockdown. Read – 2020 Hyundai i20 Key Changes Explained
