New Honda CR-V 7-Seater Launch Date Out; Gets Unique Push-button Gear-Shift

The new Honda CR-V 7-seater comes with a unique push-button gear-shift instead of the gear lever.

We informed you earlier that Honda will launch the new-gen CR-V SUV in the Indian market in October 2018. The new Honda CRV 2018 model was showcased at the Auto Expo Delhi in February. Besides this SUV, Honda will re-introduce the new Civic sedan in India in the first quarter of 2019. If latest media report is to be believed, the new model will go on sale on October 9, 2018.

For the first time, the new 2018 Honda CR-V will come with 7-seat configuration and diesel powertrain. The SUV will be powered by a newly developed 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. In fact, production of this engine has already been started at its production facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 120bhp and a peak torque of 300Nm. It will be mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters. All-wheel drive system will come as optional. In the global markets, the same engine comes with two turbochargers that offer 158bhp and 350Nm of torque; However, this twin-turbocharger will increase the prices of SUV by up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

Instead of the 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, the new CR-V will receive a new 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine mated to a CVT unit. This powertrain produces 154bhp of maximum power and 189Nm of torque. It will come in the front-wheel-drive form only, devoid of paddle-shifters.

What’s interesting is that the new CR-V will come equipped with a push-button gear-shift instead of the gear lever. By removing gear lever, automaker will be capable to free more space on the centre console, for gadgets and other equipments. The 2018 Honda CR-V is bigger in size compared to the previous model. In terms of proportions, the SUV is 4,596mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,679mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,660mm. It has a ground clearance of 198mm. This seven-seater SUV has a boot space of 150-litres, which can be extended up to 472-litres and 967-litres by folding third row and second row respectively.
