The German luxury car manufacturer is planning to launch the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan in the Indian market. The sedan will make its India debut at the Auto Expo next month and its launch will happen in late 2020. It will be brought as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit and then assembled at the carmaker’s Chakan based plant alongside the new-generation CLA and GLA.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan has been designed on the brand’s MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform that also underpins the new CLA and GLA. Besides sharing platform, the new sedan will borrow several design bits and components with the four-door coupe and SUV.
Dimensionally, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan measures 4549mm in length, 1796mm in width and 1446mm in height. It sits on a 2729mm long wheelbase and offers a boot space of 420-litres. The A-Class sedan has the lowest aerodynamic drag of all production-ready models across the world.
Globally, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan is offered with two engine options – A 200 (petrol) and A180 d (diesel). While the former makes 163bhp with 250Nm, the latter one delivers 116bhp with 260Nm. Both motors come with a 7-speed G-DCT dual-clutch gearbox.
Some of its key features include a fully free-standing cockpit with three display options, MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system, active lane change assist, active distance assist distronic, active brake assist, optional multibeam LED headlamps and more.
