Buoyed by excellent response for Hector SUV, MG Motors is now readying a wide range of cars for the Indian market. The company has decided to participate in the Asia’s largest auto event, the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. MG Motors is reportedly to introduce 4 new SUVs at the auto event – Here is a list of upcoming new MG SUVs to be unveiled at the biennial event.

MG Hector 6-Seater SUV

MG Motors will showcase the 6-seater version of the Hector SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. Rumoured to be called the Hector Plus, the new SUV will come with captain seats for all 3 rows. It will essentially be the re-badged version of the Baojun 530 that was unveiled in September 2019 for the Chinese market. It will have a different nameplate and will be positioned as premium offering in India. The MG Hector 6-seater will carry some unique design bits including revised front grille with honeycomb inserts, new headlamps and LED DRLs, new alloys, revised rear bumper and tail-lamps and faux dual exhaust system.

The upcoming MG Hector 6-seater SUV will share the mechanics with the existing 5-seater model. Engine options will include the same 1.5-litre petrol with 48V mild-hybrid setup, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a DTC automatic gearbox.

MG Baojun RS-3 Compact SUV

MG Motors is reportedly planning to introduce an all-new compact SUV, which is rumoured to challenge the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. It is expected to be the re-badged version of the Baojun RS-3 compact SUV, which has recently launched in the Chinese market. The SUV is 4,305mm in length, 1,748mm in width and 1,597mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm. The new model’s dimension is quite equivalent to the Kia Seltos (4,315mm x 1,800mm x 1,645mm and 2,610mm wheelbase). The new model is expected to have a ground clearance of around 200mm to suit the needs of Indian roads. It is powered by a 104bhp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine matched with a continuously variable transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox.

MG Motors will launch its second model – ZS EV – for the Indian market on January 27, 2020. The SUV will make its public debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, which is scheduled to commence on February 6. Initially, the new electric SUV from MG will be made available in select 5 cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. Powering the MG ZS EV is powered by a 44.5 kWh IP6 certified battery pack powering a synchronous motor that delivers a peak power of 141bhp and a peak torque of 353Nm. It’s claimed to cover 0 to 100kmph in 8.5 seconds and offer an electric range of around 340km on a single charge. The electric SUV comes with 3 drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport.

MG Maxus D90

The company will introduce the Maxus D90 7-seater SUV at the biennial event. It is expected to be launched in the mid-2020, most probably around April-June. In terms of proportions, the MG Maxus D90 is 5005mm in length, 1,932mm in width and 1,875mm in length, and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. The SUV will be bigger than its closest rivals including the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The Maxus D90 is expected to receive a new BSVI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is derived from the FCA Multijet II motor. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power output of 218bhp and peak torque of 480Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will come with 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system along with a low range transfer case. It will be made available with 7 driving modes including Economy, Motion, Snow, Mud, Sandy, Rock and Automatic.
