Maruti WagonR Crosses 20 Lakh Sales Mark in India

The WagonR has always been among the top five best-selling Maruti cars ever since its launch in 1999.

Maruti WagonR, the one of the top-selling cars from the Indo-Japanese carmaker, has achieved two million sales mark in the country. After the Maruti 800 and Alto, it’s the third Maruti model to achieve this milestone. The Maruti Alto was launched in 2000, and crossed 2 million sales in 2012. On the other hand, the Maruti Alto entered India back in 1983 and breached the same sales mark in 2003. Though, it was phased out in January 2014.

In the first quarter of this fiscal year, Maruti Suzuki India registered a total sales of 520,684 out of a cumulative industry sales of 1,026,655 units. The Indo-Japanese carmaker enjoys a sizeable chunk of the passenger vehicle market share – 50.72%. No other car manufacturer comes even close to Maruti Suzuki. Commenting on the sales milestone, R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki said,”Since its inception, WagonR has been ahead of its peers owing to its unique ‘Tall Boy Design,’ which was a first for the compact car segment in India. Its comfort seating, spacious interiors, superior fuel efficiency, practicality and pleasure of driving have made it a popular choice.”

“Maruti Suzuki has systematically upgraded the brand periodically to keep it relevant adding customers are now days aspirational and expects enhanced quality of design, features and technologies which it has been adequately addressed by the company”, he further added. The WagonR has always been favoured for its practicality, spacious cabin and easy city drivability. In its 18 years of existence, the hatchback received multiple updates at regular intervals. It was the first Maruti to come with “tall boy” design and projector headlamps (WagonR Stingray). Price of the WagonR starts from Rs 4.10 lakh for the base model and goes all the way up to Rs 5.34 lakh for the high-spec model (all, ex-showroom Delhi).
