Maruti Suzuki Sales Triples; Small, Compact Cars/UVs Top Contributors

Maruti Suzuki India has released its sales report for the month of June 2021. The Indo-Japanese carmaker sold a total of 1,47,368 units (domestic + export), which is up 217% over 57,428 units sold in June 2020. In the domestic market, the company retailed 124,280 passenger vehicles against 51,274 units of the same month previous year. Majority of sales came from the small and compact cars (86,288 units) and utility vehicles (28,172 units) segment. The highly popular WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire gathered sales 68,849 units last month and 161,510 in FY22. Maruti Suzuki’s Utility vehicle segment that includes VItara Brezza, Ertiga, Gypsy, XL6 and S-Cross, brought sales of 28,172 units in June and 60,011 units in FY22. In Q1 FY22, the company managed to sell a total of 293,062 units as opposed to 64,976 units sold during the Q1, FY21. The export sales also went up to 45,519 units from 9,572 units.

2021 Maruti Swift Facelift

In order to further boost the sales, Maruti Suzuki will bring in the new-generation Celerio by September 2021. In fact, unofficial bookings for the new model have been commenced at select dealerships. The hatchback will underpin the lightweight Heartect platform and come with a more refined petrol engine (borrowed from the WagonR). Significant changes will also be made to its interior and exterior. The 2021 Maruti Celerio will be bigger than the current generation.

The new-generation Maruti Vitara Brezza will also make its way in February 2022. The compact SUV is reported to receive a factory-fitted sunroof and a new automatic gearbox. One of the major updates will come in the form of the brand’s BS6-compliant 1.5L diesel engine along with the 1.5L K15B petrol motor with stronger hybrid technology.
