New-Generation Maruti Alto 2022 – What To Expect?

Maruti Suzuki’s highly-popular Alto hatchback is ready for a generation change. Earlier, the new model was expected to debut in the second half of 2021. Though, it’s now reported to be postponed to the next year (mid 2022). The new Maruti Alto 2022, which is currently in its testing phase, was caught on camera last year. As of now, details of the new-generation model are scanty. Though, it’s likely to witness comprehensive cosmetic changes along with a more upmarket interior. Engine setup is likely to be carried forward from the current generation.

The spy images reveal that the hatchback will retain its original boxy stance and short overhangs and While the overall length and width will remain unchanged, it height could be increased marginally. Most of the design changes are expected to be made at the front end. The 2022 Maruti Alto is likely to come with a newly-designed grille, headlamps and bumper. The rear profile could be revised with redesigned taillamps.

If reports are to be believed, the new Maruti Alto 2022 will underpin the Suzuki’s lightweight Heartect platform that has already been used in the Swift, Dzire and Ertiga. Interior might receive a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It could also be equipped with a new instrument cluster, all four power window and keyless entry. The standard safety kit will include dual airbags, speed alert system, reverse parking sensors, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) and driver and co-driver seatbelt reminder. As mentioned above, the 2022 Maruti Alto is likely to come with the same 769cc, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that does duty in the current generation. The gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 48bhp and 69Nm of torque. Rumour has it that the carmaker might offer Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid technology along with the factory-fitted CNG kit. There will be a choice between manual and AMT gearbox.
