Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has registered total sales of 124,624 units in August 2020, witnessing a growth of 17.1% over the same period last year. The Indo-Japanese carmaker sold 115,325 units in the domestic market and 1,379 units for other OEMs, accounting growth of 22%. Maruti Suzuki exports for August 2020 stood at 7,920 units, declining by 15.3% over the same month previous year. The compact segment that includes Celerio, Ignis, WagonR, Swift, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S registered sales of 61,956 units. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 1,223 units of the Ciaz mid-size sedan. The company sold 21,030 units in the utility vehicle that includes Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and XL6. A total of 9,115 units of the Maruti Omni and Eeco vans were sold last month. Maruti Suzuki’s total domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 113,033 units, while the total domestic sales in the light commercial vehicle segment and OEM stood at 2,292 units and 1,379 units respectively.
In other news, the Indo-Japanese carmaker is planning to bring in the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio during this festive season. The hatchback’s new model was recently caught testing in the country. The spy pictures reveal that the 2020 Maruti Celerio will be bigger and more spacious than the current generation. Major changes are likely to be made inside and out.
The model might receive Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system along with automatic air condition, multi functional steering wheel and reverse parking camera. The Indo-Japanese carmaker is also planning to expand its Nexa range with multiple new SUVs and cars. Reports suggest that the company will launch a premium version of the WagonR (Maruti XL5), an electric hatchback, 5-door Jimny and a mid-size SUV.
