Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel in works?

India’s largest car manufacturer is reportedly working of an all-new 800cc diesel engine for its Van, the Eeco. Currently this MPV is only offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and with a CNG kit. If media reports to believe, this engine will also be fitted in the recently launched Celerio hatchback.

According to the Financial Express report- “Maruti is working to adapt the 800cc diesel engine, its first self-developed engine, for the Eeco van. The engine will first be launched in the new Maruti LCV (codeY9T) and the Celerio this fiscal.”

Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been the country’s first car to feature AMT gearbox which has been receiving tremendous response from buyers across the nation. The AMT variant accounts for over 51 per cent of total sales. With the addition of the diesel engine, the sales for the hatchback are likely to go up. It is yet to be announced that the diesel version will get the AMT gearbox.

Currently, the Suzuki Celerio is only available in petrol version. Powering the vehicle is the same 1.0-litre engine that produces 67bhp and 90Nm of top torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission gearbox or AMT transmission.
