Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Jimny compact off-road SUV is being evaluated for the Indian market. Shashank Shrivastava, Executive director for Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the company is currently studying different aspects of the marketing for the model.
Recently, the carmaker began exporting its 3-door version to Middle East, Latin America and African markets. If reports are to be believed, the Maruti Jimny 5-door version will make its way to India. And if its launched, the model will be sold via premium Nexa dealerships.
While the official details are yet to be revealed, the 5-door Maruti Jimny is likely to feature a 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The motor produces a maximum power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. It’s likely to be offered with the 5-speed manual and 4-speed torque convertor automatic gearboxes. All variants of the Jimny might get 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system with low range transfer case as standard.
Compared to the 3-door Jimny Sierra, the India-spec 5-door Maruti Jimny will sit on a longer wheelbase. The former comes with a 2250mm of wheelbase and measures 3550mm in length, 1645mm in width and 2250mm in height. Read – 2021 Maruti Celerio With More Features & Powerful Engine To Launch Soon
The 5-door version is expected to measure around 3.9 meters in length and sit on 2500mm of wheelbase. It will have front-facing second row of seats. No changes will be made to its underpinnings. Similar to its 3-door version, the model will have a ladder-frame chassis.
Feature details of the upcoming new 5-door Maruti Jimny are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC unit, engine start-stop button, keyless entry, automatic headlamps and many more goodies.
