The 3-door Jimny won’t be launched in our market. Maruti Suzuki believes that this compact off-roader will prove to be costlier for the Indian market. The company is currently working on a 5-door Jimny, which is expected to be ready by July 2022. Codenamed YWD, the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny could be introduced as the next generation Gypsy. It is expected to be powered by a 103bhp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that powers the Vitara Brezza. A four-wheel-drive system is expected to come as standard.

The 5-door Suzuki Jimny will ride on longer wheelbase to create more cabin space. It will have front-facing second row of seats along with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity, engine start-stop button, automatic AC unit, keyless entry, automatic headlamps and more.

The current generation of 3-door Jimny was launched in 2018 in Japan. The SUV has received an excellent response from buyers globally. The Jimny was conferred the prestigious World Urban Car Award in the 2019 World Car Awards announced at the New York International Auto Show.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Jimny will fulfill aspirations of customers throughout the world. Jimny manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant shares the same specification as the export models produced at the Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Kosai plant in Japan. We are confident with Jimny we will be able to enhance our overall exports.”
