In May 2018, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz managed to outsell the City and Verna with a good margin.

With the launch of the Toyota Yaris, the game in the premium mid-size sedan segment has become much more fierce. Despite having only petrol variants in its line-up, the Yaris has managed to challenge all three of its rivals including the Ciaz, City and Verna. In May 2018, all the three mid-size sedans saw dip in their sales.  But the Ciaz still managed to outsell all of its rivals with a pretty good margin.

With a total sales of 4,024 units, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz becomes India’s top selling mid-size sedan in May, 2018. The City and the Verna, on the other hand, registered sales of 2,763 units and 3,801 units respectively. That means, the topper and the second runner up have a difference of 223 units.

Toyota’s recently launched mid-size sedan, Yaris also kicked off so well. The sedan was launched on 17th May and within two weeks it garnered a total sales of 2,843 units. These figures show that the Yaris will emerge as a strong competitor to the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna.

Among four major players of the mid-size sedan segment, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the only one which is due for the update. Reports suggest that the Indo-Japanese carmaker will introduce the Ciaz facelift in August 2018. For the 2018 model year, the sedan will see a range of cosmetic upgrades and new features.

Besides this, the carmaker is also reported to introduce Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engines on the carline. This time around, Maruti Suzuki might introduce the SHVS mild hybrid technology with the petrol powertrain. Transmission on offer might include a 5-speed manual and a new CVT unit.
