Mahindra S201 – 4 Things That Make It Better Than Competition

SsangYong Tivoli

Here’re 4 features that will make the upcoming S201 a better product than its competitions.

Mahindra & Mahindra had announced three big launches for this fiscal year. While the Mahindra Marazzo MPV recently went on sale, the Y400 SUV (Rexton/XUV700) is ready to hit showrooms this festive season. The third one to arrive in the market is the Mahindra S201 (codename) compact SUV. Here’re 4 features that will make the upcoming S201 a better product than its competitions including Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

1. Most Powerful Diesel Engine

Powering the new Mahindra compact SUV will be a 1.5L, four-cylinder diesel engine that recently debuted in the Marazzo MPV. The oil burner delivers a peak power of 123bhp against 300Nm of torque. With such high figures, the Mahindra S201 will become the most powerful diesel car in its league. It’s arch rivals – the Nexon, the Vitara Brezza  and the Ford EcoSport – make 110bhp, 90bhp and 100bhp respectively.

2. Panoramic Sunroof

Mahindra hasn’t yet revealed feature details of the compact SUV. Though, reports in media suggest that the S201 could be offered with a panoramic sunroof. This segment-first feature will be reserved for the top-spec variant of the SUV. While the Nexon and the Vitara Brezza miss out on the factory-fit sunroof, the range-topping EcoSport variant offers a standard-size sunroof. Read – Mahindra Thar, Scorpio & XUV500 To Get Generation Change

3. Seven Airbags

Rumor also has it that the top-spec trim of the Mahindra S201 will get seven airbags as standard safety feature. Along with this segment-first feature, the SUV will feature ESP (electronic stability program), ABS (antilock braking system) and rear parking sensors. Read – Upcoming Mahindra Cars In India

4. Four Disc Brakes

The Mahindra S201 will also be first compact SUV to get four-wheel disc brakes. The range-topping trim of the carline is likely to be fitted with large 17-inch alloy wheels, similar to the EcoSport S trims and Signature variant. Both the Nexon and the Vitara Brezza have been assembled with 16-inch alloy wheels.
