Upcoming Mahindra Cars in India in the Next Two Years

Here’re launch and other details of the upcoming new Mahindra cars in India.

Famous for its utility and sports utility vehicles, the home-grown auto major, Mahindra ruled the segment for long. Ironically, it started losing ground in the segment when SUVs became a rage in India. Carmakers like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors are now giving tough rivalry to Mahindra in the UV space. Determined to regain lost ground in the segment, Mahindra has planned a slew of launches in the next two years. After launching the Marazzo MPV, Alturas G4 7-seater SUV and XUV300 subcompact SUV, the company is aiming to expand its product portfolio with a range of new models. The carmaker will also launch the next-generation versions of its existing SUV range. Here’s a look at all upcoming Mahindra cars in India in 2019 and 2020.

1. Mahindra XUV Aero

upcoming mahindra cars in india xuv aero

Mahindra & Mahindra had showcased the XUV Aero Coupe SUV concept at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, followed by debut at the 2017 Automobile Barcelona. Featuring sporty and futuristic design, the coupe SUV concept received good response from visitors. Face of the XUV Aero shares resemblance to the Mahindra XUV500, especially its headlamps and sculpted hood. Though, it gets new LED DRLs, hood vents, sloping roofline, flared wheel arches and high-positioned rear end.

Under the hood, the Mahindra XUV Aero Coupe SUV is likely to feature a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor generating a maximum power of 210bhp. The oil burner has an advanced combustion system, new-generation turbocharger and low pressure EGR technology that enhance its refinement and performance. The transmission duties will be performed by a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox. Media reports suggest that Mahindra might also introduce the electric version of the SUV. Among the slew of upcoming Mahindra cars in India, this one would be the most contemporary model, with a progressive design. Read More…

2. New-Gen Mahindra Thar

Thar has been among top favourites among off-road enthusiasts in India. But it’s a pretty old product now and still has a decade old platform that’s certainly can’t be considered safe. That’s why it surely requires a generation change, and that’s exactly what Mahindra is planning to do. This is surely one of our top favourites among all upcoming Mahindra cars in India. Though no official word on its launch date yet, we hope it to go on sale by the end of 2019 or early 2020.

The reason we believe it’s coming this year or early next year is because of the new safety norms that will be applicable, which will require all the vehicles to pass the crash tests. This means that the new 2019 Mahindra Thar too will have to have a better structure to clear the test, as the current one seems really old. Mahindra owned Italian design house Pininfarina could also help design the vehicle, while in technology SsangYong could play a crucial part. The 2019 Mahindra Thar will also receive a new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine that is likely to offer about 140bhp of power and over 300Nm of torque. Read More…

The oil burner is likely to come with a 6-speed manual gearbox. While the new-generation model will retain the original design, it will receive new projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillamps and several other styling changes. The SUV’s new model will be built on an all-new monocoque chassis, which will also be used by Ford for its new upcoming C-segment SUV. Design and styling of the new 2020 Mahindra XUV500 could be inspired by the next-gen SsangYong Korando SUV that broke cover at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show.

The 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will be longer and more spacious than the outgoing model. It will also receive several segment-leading features to compete against the growing competition. The SUV’s new-generation model could be offered with all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine that will also be used in the next-generation Thar. The home-grown carmaker will also give a generation change to its highly-popular Scorpio SUV sometime next year. Similar to the new Thar and XUV500, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will be designed on an all-new platform and carry a new engine setup. The SUV will also be more feature-packed, safer and premium than the current generation. The new Mahindra Scorpio 2020 will designed by the company’s in-house design team with inputs from Pininfarina.

At the engine front, the 2020 Scorpio might get a 2.2L turbocharged diesel motor that will be tuned for generating two different power outputs – 120bhp with 280Nm and 140bhp with 320Nm. Upon launch, it will be gun up straight against the Tata Harrier 7-seater and new Hyundai Creta 7-seater.

Rumour has it that the Mahindra XUV400 will share its powertrains with the XUV300. That means, the diesel version of the SUV will come with the 115bhp, 1.5L motor and the petrol model will use the 110bhp, 1.2L turbocharged unit.
