Known for making UVs, the Mumbai-based auto giant, Mahindra ruled the segment for long. Ironically, it started losing ground in the segment when SUVs became a rage in India. The onslaught of new models from rivalling brands, earlier known for making smaller cars, came as a big blow to the UV maker. Determined to regain lost ground in the segment, Mahindra has planned a slew of launches in the next two years. Here’s a look at all upcoming Mahindra cars in India in 2017 and 2018.

1. 170 bhp Mahindra XUV500

The only model that could replicate Scorpio’s unparalleled success in Mahindra’s line-up is the XUV500. First launched in 2011, XUV500 has received several upgrades in its life-span and is still one of its most selling models. With the launch of more contemporary rivals like Tata Hexa and Toyota Innova Crysta, the SUV has started feeling the heat in this space. It is expected that Mahindra could increase the power output on the XUV500. The current 2.2-litre, turbocharged engine makes 140bhp with 330Nm of torque. 2. Mahindra XUV500 Petrol

Mahindra’s current line-up is available with diesel engines, save for the KUV100 that gets the 1.2-litre petrol unit. The company lacks larger engines for its full-grown SUVs like Scorpio and XUV500. With shift in demand for petrol powered cars, Mahindra is developing a new 1.5-litre unit in collaboration with SsangYong. This engine is expected to be used in both Mahindra and SsangYong’s upcoming models. The larger capacity petrol engines are expected to get turbocharger and direct-injections. It is expected that Mahindra could launch its stellar model XUV500 in petrol version and if it receives good response, the company could roll-out Scorpio with petrol engine as well. Know More

3. Mahindra Scorpio 2017

Mahindra’s first most successful SUV, Scorpio is up for another facelift. The Mahindra Scorpio 2017 has been spotted testing in Chennai recently, giving inkling of the upcoming facelift. Mahindra’s oldest model in the full-grown SUV space received a generation change in 2014 and this will be the first major upgrade post its generation leap three years ago. While the details on the Scorpio facelift are yet limited, the spotted model was seen sporting a blue & black cloth at front & rear, hinting at copious aesthetic changes on the outside. Styling updates will also be made to the inside and it will also receive additional kit. In mechanical terms, the Scorpio 2017 is likely to get the 140bhp, 2.2-litre mHawk engine along with revised torque. 4. New-generation Mahindra Scorpio

From the lot of upcoming Mahindra cars in India, the new-gen Scorpio will take around 2-3 years before it goes on sale. With the upcoming generation change, Scorpio will take leap into the fourth generation that is expected to break covers by 2020. Aside from retailing it in the domestic market, the company is also exploring options to export it to the overseas markets. The new-gen Scorpio is suggested to be developed jointly by Mahindra’s North American Centre and its R&D centre located in Chennai.
