India’s 6 Top-Selling SUVs Will Soon Be Available With CNG Kit

The demand of CNG vehicles is all time high, thanks to the rising fuel cost and expensive EVs. This fiscal year, the CNG vehicles recorded sales growth of 55% with total sales of 2,65383 units against 1,71,288 units in FY21. With the increasing demand of CNG cars, the automakers are planning to introduce the CNG variants (with the factory-fitted CNG kit) of their popular models including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Kia and Tata Motors. Here’s a brief on the upcoming CNG SUVs.

Maruti Brezza CNG

2022 Maruti Brezza Bookings

The Indo-Japanese carmaker has confirmed that it will bring in the CNG version of the new-generation Brezza subcompact SUV. Its official launch date and details are yet to be revealed. The company says that it will introduce more CNG cars once the supply gets better. The Maruti Brezza CNG will come with the new K15C petrol engine paired to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The setup is likely to deliver power close to 87bhp and 121Nm of torque. It could be made available with manual gearbox only. More details here…

Tata Nexon CNG

2020 Tata Nexon Petrol Specs

Tata Motors has been testing the Nexon CNG for a while. It will feature the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol engine with the CNG kit and deliver slightly less power (around 15bhp) than the regular gasoline unit. Though, its mileage figures will be higher. The Tata Nexon CNG will come with both manual and AMT gearbox options. No changes will be made to its design and interior. The CNG kit will be available on select variants. More details here…

New 2022 Hyundai Venue Waiting Period

Hyundai Motor India currently offers two CNG models, namely, Grand i10 Nios hatchback and Aura mid-size sedan. With an aim to strengthen its market, the company is planning tap the growing CNG segment with new CNG versions of its existing models. It might consider the Venue subcompact SUV that’s currently available with the 1.5L turbo diesel, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options. More details here…

Hyundai Alcazar

Hyundai Alcazar 7 Seater SUV

The fresh spy images reveal that Hyundai is working on CNG version of the Alcazar SUV. The model will have a 2.0L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with the factory-fitted CNG kit. While the regular unit makes 159bhp with 192Nm, the CNG variant will be slightly less powerful. The kit could be offered only on the top-end Signature trim that offers features such as ventilated front seats, paddle shifters, traction control modes, etc. More details here…

Kia Sonet

2022 Kia Sonet Launch

Kia Sonet CNG model is reportedly under its testing phase in the country. Its test mule has already been caught on camera featuring CNG intake valve and CNG sticker on the rear windshield. The subcompact SUV will be equipped with the 1.0L turbo petrol engine and CNG kit. Its power and torque figures could be slightly different from the regular gasoline unit. While there is no official word on its launch timeline and prices, the model is expected to cost around Rs 13 lakh. More details here…

The South Korean automaker has also been testing the Carens CNG that was spotted in the month of April. It’s likely to be equipped with the 1.4L turbo petrol motor with the factory-fitted CNG kit. The Kia Carnes CNG could be the first CNG model in India to come with the turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed manual gearbox. Once launched, it will take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG. More details here…
