New Maruti Alto Could Launch Before Grand Vitara – More Facts

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch two important new products – the Grand Vitara SUV and the new-gen Alto hatchback. The company has already revealed the Grand Vitara, which is scheduled to be launched in September 2022. Production of the new SUV will begin in August and deliveries are expected in September. On the other hand, the new Maruti Alto has been spotted during its official TV commercial shoot.

It is expected that the company could launch the new Maruti Alto before the Grand Vitara. The new Alto is expected to be launched in the second half of August 2022. What’s interesting is that MSIL could also re-introduce the Alto K10 nameplate in the market. However, MSIL is yet to make an official statement on the same.

The spy images reveal that the new Alto will grow in size; it will be taller and longer than the outgoing model. The new model will be based on Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform that underpins new Celerio and the S-Presso. It shares styling cues from the Celerio hatchback. The entry-level hatchback will come with all-new exterior, featuring a Celerio-inspired big grille, a larger sweptback headlamps and new bumper. The hatchback will have taller rear profile, featuring restyled tail-lights, bigger glass area, new bumper and flatter roofline along with prominent fenders.

The hatchback will also share the interiors with the Celerio and the S-Presso. Thanks to the bigger dimensions, the new Alto will offer more space inside the cabin. It will come with all-new dashboard with a completely revised central console. The top-spec model is likely to come with a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and others.

The hatchback will retain the existing 796cc 3-cylinder F8D petrol engine that produces 47bhp and 69Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The new Alto K10 is expected to feature a 998cc, 3-cylinder K10C petrol engine that produces 66bhp and 89Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.

MSIL will launch the new Grand Vitara SUV in September 2022. Based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, the new SUV will come with 1.5L petrol and a 1.5L petrol with a strong hybrid engine. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.

The strong hybrid model is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 27.97kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.5L petrol manual returns 21.11kmpl. The automatic model delivers 20.58kmpl and the manual AWD unit is claimed to offer 19.38kmpl. It will be offered in 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone colour options.

The SUV is equipped with high-end features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, digital instrument console, cruise control, Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system with 4 drive modes, 360 degree camera, and connected car tech. For safety and security, the SUV offers 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, reverse parking camera, TPMS, ESP, hill hold assist, hill descent control, day & night adjustable IRVM.
