The Indian automobile market is ready to witness several new launches in coming years including EVs, hybrid and flex-fuel models. Besides a range of new products, car manufacturers will give mid-life updates and generation change to their popular models. In the next couple of years, there will be 12 models (confirmed) that will enter into their next generation including 3 Maruti Suzuki, 3 Tata, 4 Mahindra, 1 Toyota and 1 Ford.

The Indo-Japanese automaker will introduce the new-generation Brezza compact SUV, Alto and Swift hatchbacks. While the new Brezza will see a release in mid 2022, the Alto and Swift will make their global debut sometime next year. Talking about the Brezza, the model will come with improved styling and a bunch of advanced features. Rumour has it that the automaker might introduce stronger hybrid system that will make it more frugal than the existing model. The Alto and Swift will receive significant changes inside and out. While the former will get bigger and have more powerful 1.0L petrol engine, the latter will come with a more refined 1.2L NA petrol motor with stronger hybrid system.

Tata’s three popular cars, namely, Nexon, Tiago and Tigor will enter into their new-generation sometime in 2022 or 2023. All three models will switch to the Alfa platform that underpins the Altroz premium hatchback. Details of the upcoming cars are still under the wraps. Though, major changes are likely to be made on the exterior and interior. Engine setup, however, might remain unchanged.

Mahindra & Mahindra is ready to launch the new-generation Scorpio in early 2022. The SUV will have bigger dimensions, new engines, better styling and a more feature-packed interior. The company’s top-selling Bolero SUV will also witness a generation change in coming years. The Mahindra XUV500, which has been discontinued, will return as a Hyundai Creta fighter in 2024. While official launch timeline of the new-generation Mahindra XUV300 is yet to be revealed, the model is likely to arrive in 2023. The subcompact SUV is likely to receive comprehensive changes inside and out.
Upcoming Big SUVs
India’s two popular 7-seater SUVs – Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour will receive a generation change in 2022. If reports are to be believed, the 2022 Fortuner will come with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), vehicle stability control and electric power steering along with the major cosmetic upgrades. This time around, the SUV (global-spec model) might also get diesel hybrid powertrain. The new-generation Ford Endeavour will be brought to India via CBU route that will make it more expensive than the Fortuner and Gloster.
