India-Bound Volkswagen T-Cross Score 5 Star in Latin NCAP crash test
The Volkswagen T-Cross has received a solid five star rating for Adult Occupant Protection and five stars for Child Occupant Protection.
The Volkswagen T-Cross, the Brazilian-spec model, has received a solid five star rating for Adult Occupant Protection and five stars for Child Occupant Protection. This compact SUV is fitted with 6 airbags and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard. It showed very good protection to its occupants in the three crash tests performed (front, side and side pole impact tests).
The model also comfortably met the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) test requirements. Volkswagen’s first compact SUV for the Latin American and Caribbean market achieved top star ratings for adult and child occupants plus the Latin NCAP Advanced Award for its Pedestrian Protection and Multi Collision Braking technology.
The front offset crash test was conducted at a speed of 64kmph, while a side mobile barrier test was done at 50kmph. The T-Cross scored 14.62 out of 16 points for front offset crash and 16 out of 16 for the side crash test in the adult occupant safety. The Volkswagen T-Cross scored 21.77 out of 24 points in the child occupant safety. The T-Cross body shell was rated as standard, while the Footwell area was rated as stable and showed insignificant deformation. The ESC was tested and its performance met the regulatory requirements of Latin NCAP. The car offers 2 frontal SBR. The Volkswagen T-Cross is built on the VW Group’s MQB AO platform that also underpins the new-gen Polo hatchback. The compact SUV will also be launched in India, which will be developed on the locally developed MQB AO IN platform. The India-spec model will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that powers the 130bhp of power. The SUV will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks.
