The mid-size SUVs are getting popular among Indian buyers. And proof of which lies in the fact that a total of 35,383 units were sold in February 2023 against 24,460 units in the same month last year. The sales figures of the mid-size SUVs, however, were significantly higher (42,789 units) in January 2023. The segment is currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta that recorded sales of 10,421 units against 9,606 units in February 2022. It registered a YoY growth of 8.48 percent.
The latest entrant – Maruti Grand Vitara – managed to grab the second position with total sales of 9,183 units. The SUV comes with the 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 115bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol powertrain options. While the former comes with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, the latter can be had with an e-CVT gearbox. The mild hybrid setup is claimed to deliver a fuel economy of 21.11kmpl (MT), 20.58kmpl (AT) and 19.38kmpl (MT AWD). The Grand Vitara strong hybrid version promises 27.97kmpl.

The Kia Seltos was the third top selling mid-size SUV in February 2023. The South Korean automaker managed to retail 8,012 units of the SUV as opposed to 6,575 units in the corresponding month last year. At present, the Seltos is offered with the 115bhp, 1.5L petrol, 140bhp, 1.4L turbo petrol and 115bhp, 1.5L diesel engine options. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
While the Maruti Grand Vitara is the all-new product in the mid-size SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are ready to receive mid-life updates. The updated Seltos is reported to hit showrooms by mid 2023 and the Creta facelift will arrive in early 2024. Both SUVs will come with slightly improved design and ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) along with a bunch of new features.
