Hero, TVS, Suzuki, Bajaj & Honda To Launch Electric Scooters In India

Here we bring you a list of top 5 exciting new electric scooters to be launched by India’s leading two-wheeler makers – Bajaj, Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki, TVS Motor Company and Honda 2Wheelers.

New Bajaj E-Scooter (2022-23)

Bajaj has started testing a new electric scooter, which is reportedly to be a more affordable alternative to the Chetak Electric. The new scooter is likely to cost under 1 lakh and will compete against the Ola S1. Spy images reveal that the new Bajaj e-Scooter will have sleek and sharp design compared to the Chetak. The new scooter is likely to share cycle parts and powertrain components with the Chetak. For reference, the Chetak e-scooter has a 4kW motor that source power from a 2.9kWh battery pack.

Hero Electric Scooter (Early 2022)

Hero MotoCorp has officially announced to launch a new electric scooter by March 2022. Once launched, it will compete against the likes of the Ola S1, Simple One, Ather 450X, Bajaj Chetak and others. Hero is working on several new products including an EV sharing battery technology with Gogoro. Hero will use Gogoro’s battery swapping platform for its upcoming EVs.

Suzuki Burgman Electric (Launch 2022)

Suzuki is testing the prototype of its first electric scooter, which is based on the popular Burgman maxi scooter. The scooter was caught testing multiple times finished in a special White and Blue dual-tone colour scheme. The Blue colour highlights its electric nature. Suzuki is yet to reveal the powertrain details of the new Burgman electric. It is expected to be equipped with a 3-4 kWh battery pack, paired to a 4-6kW electric motor. It is expected to deliver a range of around 100km on a single charge. Expect a top speed of around 80kmph.

TVS Motor Company is getting aggressive with its electric strategy, as it plans to launch a wide range of EVs in the next couple of years. The company is working on an integrated vehicle platform with a significant backend manufacturing of battery and components managed by in-house team. The company will launch a new electric scooter, which is likely to be the production version of the TVS Creon concept.

The concept was equipped with a 12kW electric motor powered by three lithium-ion batteries. It is claimed to achieve 0-60kmph in 5.1 seconds and offer a range of 80km. However, the production model is likely to receive a different battery pack and could offer over 100km range.

Honda E-Scooter (Launch By 2023)

Honda will soon start feasibility test of its upcoming electric scooters, which is expected to be launched before the end of next financial year. The Japanese automaker is yet to reveal the product details, but it could be the PCX electric scooter. The scooter was previewed to select dealers in 2020 and its patent registered in India in May 2021. Powertrain system of the electric scooter includes a removable lithium-ion battery called ‘Honda Mobile Power Pack’. The battery packs can be fully charged either via the conventional cable charger in 6 hours or separately in 4 hours.
