Toyota Hilux Caught During TVC Shoot; Launch In January 2022

The globally popular Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up truck is reportedly to be launched in the Indian market in January 2022. Ahead of the official launch, the pick-up has been caught during its official TV commercial shoot in Cybercity Gurgaon.

It is expected that the new Toyota Hilux will be offered in two variants – Hilux and Hilux Reo. The latest spy images also reveal the face of the India-spec Hilux, which comes with some design changes. It is developed on the IMV-2 platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. The pick-up measures 5.3 meters in length and has a wheelbase of over 3 meters, which is significantly higher than the Innova and the Fortuner.

The India-spec Toyota Hilux comes with slightly different front, featuring a larger hexagonal front grille, sweptback headlamps with LED DRLs and slightly revised bumper. The pick-up has a muscular front bumper with wider air-dam with silver skid plate. There is a prominent chrome surrounding the massive front grille.

Extensive use of chrome is also visible on the side as well as on the rear profile. It gets chromed door handles, flared wheel arches, and body cladding along with side step. The rear profile is simple, featuring sculpted tail-lights. The new model could be offered in a double as well as single-cab versions.

The Toyota Hilux Pick-up is likely to share several components from the  locally produced Innova and Fortuner, which should help Toyota to achieve competitive pricing. The cabin is likely to source the dashboard design and seats with the Hilux. It is likely to get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The India-spec Hilux could be offered with two diesel engine options – a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre. While the former is good for 148bhp and 400Nm of torque, the latter pushes out 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The vehicle will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain.

It is likely to be launched as a CKD unit with some parts locally sourced. The new model is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh, which makes it a rival to the Isuzu Hi-Lander and V-Cross priced between Rs 18.05 lakh and Rs 25.60 lakh.
