Maruti Suzuki Plans Multiple New SUVs To Target Hyundai, Mahindra

In order to regain lost market share, Maruti Suzuki is working on a wide range of new SUVs for the Indian market. The company is working on two sub-4 meter SUVs, a lifestyle SUV, a new mid-sized SUV and a 7-seater SUV. With these new range of SUVs, MSIL is aiming to grab significant SUV market share that is currently ruled by Hyundai and Mahindra.

5 door Jimny India

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Brezza sub-4 meter SUV in the mid-2022. The new model will rival the likes of Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and others in its category. The new model will be based on the modified version of the existing platform, which is found stable in GNCAP. It is expected that the new Brezza will target at 5 star rating in the crash test. The new model will be equipped with several segment-leading features such as electric sunroof, 6-speed AT, automatic AC, cruise control and others. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system.

MSIL is also working on a new compact SUV Coupe, codenamed YTB, which will be positioned above the Brezza. The new model will rival the higher variants of the Venue, Sonet and the XUV300. The new model will be based on the HEARTECT platform that underpins the Baleno. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system.

Maruti Suzuki is readying a long-wheelbase version of the Jimny off-roader, which is expected to be launched in India before the end of 2022. The new model will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase. It will rival the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha. The off-roader will share the 1.5L petrol engine with the Brezza.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is preparing a new mid-sized SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new model will be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform that underpins the Avanza and the Raize. It is likely to be powered by a new Boosterjet petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox. The company is also developing a new flagship SUV, codenamed Y17, which will be a 7-seater model. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. The new 7-seater SUV could be based on the Ertiga platform. It could replace the XL6 6-seater crossover-MPV, which is based on the Ertiga MPV.
