First Tata Altroz Hatchback Rolled Out From Pune Plant

Tata Motors has rolled out the 1st unit of Altroz premium hatchback from its production plant in Pune. Set to be unveiled in December 2019, the new Tata Altroz will go on sale in the country in January 2020. The premium hatchback will directly rival the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz.

The new Tata Altroz will also mark the debut of the company’s new ALFA modular platform, which will also underpin the upcoming Tata H2X concept based mini SUV. It is the second Tata model designed on the new IMPACT DESIGN 2.0 language. The company had previewed the hatchback as the 45X concept at the Auto Expo 2018. The pre-production version of the Altroz was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Commenting on the roll-out, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors said, “We are thrilled to roll-out yet another class defining product from the plant today. The ALTROZ is our first product that will be launched on the all-new ALFA platform and we believe that it will raise the bar for vehicles across the premium hatchback segment, come 2020. Since the unveiling of the concept in 2018, the anticipation for ALTROZ has always been high. We hope that customers will appreciate the new futuristic design with host of smart features, many of which are one segment above.”

Engine details about the upcoming Tata Altroz are still under the wraps. Though, the premium hatchback is likely to come with 3 engines – a 85bhp, 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated and a 102bhp, 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit, a 90bhp, 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbocharged. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual (1.2L Petrol), a 6-speed manual and an AMT unit. The hatchback could also receive a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
