Ford, the American automaker will launch three new cars this year in the Indian car market. The first big launch for 2015 will be the much-awaited Figo compact sedan, while the other two cars to hit market are new generation Figo hatch and Endeavour SUV. In next few months, the Figo sedan will be launched in the market and the production of the car has already commenced at the company’s new production unit in Sanand, Gujarat. The company has been spotted testing for the first time with licensing plates bearing Gujarat registration.
The Figo twins have been spotted on the Abu road, which connects Udaipur to Mount Abu. The sub-4 metre sedan is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2015, while the hatchback is likely to go on sale by festive season. The fresh spyshots also reveals few details about the interior of the new crop of Ford. Going by the pictures, the compact car has a mobile phone docking system on the dashboard. Its dashboard is completely new, which matches with Ford’s new global design philosophy.
The Figo compact sedan will be offered in both petrol and turbo diesel engine options. The petrol motor is expected to be the non-turbo version of the 1.0L EcoBoost engine that is good for 80bhp and 105Nm of torque. Other petrol engine would be the 1.5-litre Ti-VCT engine that also powers the EcoSport SUV. The oil burner will be the 1.5-litre TDCI motor that is likely to be detuned to 75bhp and 190Nm from 89bhp and 205Nm of torque.
The Ford Figo compact sedan will rival against the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Maruti Swift Dzire. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 7 lakh.
