We informed you earlier that General Motors is working on the next generation Chevrolet Spark (Chevrolet Beat), which is expected to make its official debut early next year. A new Chevrolet hatchback has been spotted testing, which is reportedly the next generation Spark (Beat). First launched in 2010, the outgoing Spark will see a complete makeover for select international markets including the United States and Korea.
The new generation Spark/Beat will be based on the new Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva platform, which will be shown at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next month. It is quite early to comment whether this model will make its way to Indian market or not. Few days back, GM reveals that they are working on the ‘Amber’ platform, which will underpin future Chevrolet’s compact car. It is expected that the next Beat for the Indian and Brazilian market will be based on the Amber platform.
The Amber platform, reportedly, will spawn a new hatchback and compact SUV. The new hatchback will replace the current Chevrolet Beat in India, which is expected to come here by 2016-17. Until then, GM India will continue to offer the outgoing Beat and Sail twins to keep things right in the market. Moreover, the maker is also aiming to timely upgrade the Beat hatchback to keep things fresh in India.
The new Spark is expected to be powered by a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that develops around 90 to 115bhp of power and 166Nm of top torque. Both manual and automatic transmission will be on offer.
