Before getting into other things, let’s start with the introduction of the brand Datsun. It’s not an entirely new brand to enter both the global as well as Indian automobile industry. It is a century old brand, with its roots in Japan. Started as an individual car brand, Datsun was taken over by Nissan’s founding father Yoshisuke Aikawa back in 1933, and since then it has been one of the most important brands for the company.
With a vision of ‘mobility for all’ Datsun produced a light-weight, affordable yet resilient car named the ‘Datson’ to meet the demands of young Japanese people in the early 1930s. Later its name was changed to Datsun. After serving to growing middle class in several nations for years, Nissan phased out the Datsun brand in 1986, but Carlos Ghosn- Nissan president and CEO has a different vision and approach to look at it. According to him Datsun with its affordable cars can still serve to a large population of growing markets like India, Russia, Indonesia and South Africa. And his promise to reintroduce the Datsun brand has finally taken place, and luckily India became the host to unveil the global launch of the company’s first car Datsun Go on July 15, 2013. The launch, however, took place in 2014. The car was positioned against some heavyweights like Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and others in the league.

Datsun Go Overview- Nissan that is aiming to grab around 10% market share in India by 2016 (we all know that was some TALL claim) under its 88 project, believes that Datsun cars will play a major role in achieving its objective. Launched at slightly over Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Go surely is far better than all of its rivals in terms of design, spaciousness and overall dimensions.
Datsun Go is a five-door, front wheel drive hatch, which derives its power from the proven and potent 1.2-litre engine, which also does its duty to the Micra. But the engine churns out more power with the latter for obvious reasons.
And with width, height. length and wheelbase of around 1635mm, 1485mm, 3785mm, 2450mm, the car is as spacious as the Micra, though it has lesser height. But with such dimensions, it certainly has an upper hand over its competition. So, we believe that Datsun Go can truly turn the fate of its maker.
Engine Specs
As mentioned above, Datsun Go derives its power from the similar 1.2-litre petrol engine, which also does duty on the Micra. And mated to a five-speed manual transmission, it offers agility and optimal response time in heavy traffic. This engine is tuned to produce 67bhp and 104Nm.
Mileage
Since the 1.2-litre motor is tuned to deliver less power than the it does with the Micra, so to return better mileage. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, this 1198cc engine is claimed to return an impressive 20kmpl of mileage.

Designed on the platform of the earlier generation Micra, Datsun Go is compact yet the most spacious cars in its segment. The vehicle is 1635mm wide, 3785mm long, 1485mm high, and offers 2450mm of wheelbase. And with such dimensions, it easily accommodates five occupants in the cabin.
