BMW Motorrad, the British bikemaker has finally mark its official entry into the Indian two-wheeler market. The company first showcased its several motorcycles at the 2016 Auto Expo, including the much-awaited BMW G 310 R. This naked streetfighter is the first product developed under BMW-TVS partnership. BMW Motorrad India is based out of Gurgaon as part of BMW’s India subsidiary, BMW Group.
Shivaprasad Ray will head the BMW Motorrad in India. He was earlier worked with several two-wheeler automakers including DSK Benelli and Hyosung. The company has started its operations by introducing four dealerships at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. BMW will further expand its reach and product portfolio in the country in near future.
Currently, the entire BMW Motorrad range comes as completely built units. The company’s most important products in its entire lineup – BMW R 1200 GS and BMW S 1000 RR – have also been launched in the market. Other motorcycles incoude R 1200 R, RS and RT, Boxer range, the K 1600 GTL inline six-cylinder tourer, the R Nine T and R NineT Scrambler and the popular BMW S 1000 XR adventure tourer. The BMW Motorrad range prices start at Rs 14.90 lakh for the R 1200 R, which goes up to Rs 28.5 lakh for the K 1600 GTL.
BMW will launch its smallest and least powerful motorcycle G 310 R in the country in the second half of 2017. Adding to it, the company is also planning to introduce the G 310 GS adventure tourer, which is based on the G 310R platform. The adventure tourer could make its debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo.
