– BMW G 310 GS is essentially an adventure touring version of the BMW G310 R.

– The bike is now available in India at Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

BMW G 310 GS entry-level performance bike has been launched in India at Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Alongside, the German bikemaker also introduced its most affordable motorcycle – BMW G 310 R. TVS’s Hosur based facility in Tamil Nadu is serving as production hub for both the bikes. First previewed in 2016, the BMW G 310 GS is an entry-level adventure tourer motorcycle which is jointly developed by BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company.

Sporting aggressive styling and touring attributes, the BMW G310 GS will attract enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable motorcycle with off-roading capabilities. Design inspiration for the motorcycle has been derived from the popular F 700GS. The adventure tourer makes use of a 313cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine sourced from the TVS Apache RR 310. However, it is tuned to suit adventure motorcycle capabilities.

Interested buyers can book the bike by a paying an initial sum of Rs 50,000. The bike will be available across all BMW Motorrad India’s dealerships present in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kochi. The G 310 GS adventure motorcycle had its India debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo alongside the G 310 R. Developed locally, the all-new BMW G 310 GS adventure tourer is priced at Rs 3.49 (ex-showroom, India). Interestingly, it doesn’t have any direct competitor in the Indian two-wheeler market. Though, it will face challenge from the Kawasaki Versys X-300 and the Suzuki V-Strom. The bikemaker confirmed that the deliveries will be done on the first come, first serve basis. Besides sharing the platform, the new BMW mini-GS adventure motorcycle borrows its engine with its naked G 310 R sibling. Powering the motorcycle is a 313cc, single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor. This DOHC cylinder head unit has been tuned for enhancing its adventure capabilities. On the naked bike, this powerplant churns out a top power of 34bhp at 9,500rpm, while making a peak torque of 28Nm at 7,500rpm. The Indonesia-spec model of the adventure bike delivers a claimed fuel economy of 30.03kmpl (World Motorcycle Test Cycle – WMTC certified). In India, the tourer’s 313cc liquid-cooled motor will deliver a mileage around 30kmpl in city and 35kmpl on freeways.

BMW Motorrad’s smallest adventure tourer – the G 310 GS is heavily inspired by the big BMW bikes including BMW R 1200 GS, F 750 GS and F 850 GS. Some of its design bits have been carried over from the G310R such as headlight, handlbar, instrument cluster, radiator shrouds and stubby front beak with the naked sibling. The adventure tourer has a small windscreen and dual-sport tyres. The long travel suspension system and all-terrain (off-road tyres) make it more compatible for rough terrains. Built on modified tubular steel frame, the motorcycle comes with a set of 5-spoke 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels and 110/80 R19 and 150/70 R17 tyres. BMW Motorrad is also offering a range of accessories with the bike including two seat-height options (820mm and 850mm), 12 volt power sockets, satellite navigation, heated grips, luggage kits, smartphone solutions and a centre stand.

Dimensions

The overall length, width and height of the all-new BMW G 310 GS adventure tourer measure 2,075mm, 880mm and 1,230mm respectively. The tourer comes with a wheelbase of 1,420mm and offers a ground clearance of 180mm. The motorcycle offers a seat height of 835mm. It also has two seat height options – 820mm and 850. Colours

Similar to the global-spec model, the BMW G 310GS is offered in three colour schemes in the Indian market. Buyers have a choice of Racing Red, Cosmic Black and Pearl White Metallic shades.

Suspension and braking systems of the mini GS adventure sport are similar to the G310R. However, the former gets longer travel suspension compared to its naked sibling. For performing damping duties, the G 310 GS gets an upside-down 41mm fork and monoshock with adjustable preload rear suspension setup. Sitting on new tubular steel chassis, the GS 310 derives its braking power from the 300mm single disc front brake and 240mm rear disc brake with 2-piston floating caliper. The bike also gets dual-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and a luggage carrier as standard feature.
