7 Upcoming New Midsize SUVs – New Duster To Curvv

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota entered the midsize SUV category with the Grand Vitara and the Hyryder respectively in 2022. Both SUVs have received an overwhelming response from car buyers, as waiting period soars to 7-8 months. On the other hand, Nissan & Renault alliance, Honda and Tata Motors have already announced their future midsize SUVs for our market. In this article, we bring you a list of top 7 new midsize SUVs to be launched in our market in the next 2-3 years –

New Honda SUV

Honda has officially announced the launch of a new midsize SUV in the country before festive season, Diwali. In fact, the new SUV has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads. The new model will make its global debut in the second quarter of 2023. It will be based on the modified Amaze platform, which will also underpin a sub-compact SUV and the next-gen Amaze sedan. It will share styling cues from global Honda SUVs including the HR-V and the new-gen WR-V. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 121bhp, 1.5L NA petrol and a 126bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol engine + e:HEV hybrid.

New Kia Seltos

Kia will launch the new Seltos SUV in the country by mid-2023. The new model will receive design changes & an upgraded interior along with a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. It will come with a significantly revised interior with a new panoramic screen display that combines the 10.25-inch instrument console & 10.25-inch center display. The new model will also receive a panoramic sunroof, which is missing in the current model. The 2023 Kia Seltos will also offer ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane following assist, etc. It will be powered by a new 160PS, 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine with manual and 7-speed DCT. The SUV will retain the existing 115bhp, 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 115bhp, 1.5L diesel engine.

Tata Curvv

Tata Motors has announced that the production version of the Curvv SUV Concept will be launched in 2024. The new model will be based on the GEN 2 platform, which is heavily modified ALFA architecture. It will be offered with petrol and electric powertrains. The new model will be powered by a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) engine that produces 125PS of power at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 225Nm between 1700-3500rpm. It is expected to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. The EV version of the SUV Coupe is likely to receive a larger 40kWh battery pack with a range over 400kms.

New Hyundai Creta

Hyundai will launch the significantly revised Creta SUV in the country in 2024. The Creta facelift is already on sale in select international markets; however, the India-specific model will receive more changes and several advanced driver assistance features. The new model will come with design changes and upgraded cabin along with a more powerful turbo petrol engine. It will receive a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with manual and DCT.

Renault has announced plans to launch the third-gen Duster SUV in the country by 2024-25. It will be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-B platform, which will also underpin a new 7-seater SUV. The all-new Renault Duster will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. The CMF-B platform will be future-proof & will be compliant with existing and upcoming safety norms. Moreover, the platform will also support electrification, including hybrid & EV powertrains. The new model will initially come with a petrol engine, and hybrid & EVs will join the line-up in future. It will also come with AWD setup.

Nissan will also launch a new midsize SUV in the country by 2024-25. It will be based on the CMF-B modular platform, which will be heavily localised to create more future vehicles. The new model will have a modern interior with features like a touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless connectivity, digital driver display, ventilated seats and others. The new model will be offered with a petrol engine option.

Mahindra had discontinued the XUV500 nameplate on the arrival of the XUV700 SUV. The company has announced that the XUV500 is temporarily discontinued and will return as an all-new model in future. The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 is reportedly to be launched as a new midsize SUV, which will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and others. It will measure around 4.3 meters in length and will be based on a modified XUV300 platform. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options. The company could also launch the electrified version of the XUV500.
