Maruti Suzuki will bring in its most expensive car in India this year. The model will be based on the Toyota Innova Hycross that went on sale in late 2022. It will be the brand’s first re-badged Toyota that’s reported to witness a market launch during 2023 festive season. In the company’s product lineup, the new Maruti MPV will sit above the XL6 that costs between Rs 11.41 lakh – Rs 14.67 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
Prices of the three-row MPV are expected to start around Rs 20 lakh and go up to Rs 30 lakh. Being a premium product, it will be retailed from Nexa dealership network. The model will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi-based facility that’s also used for the Grand Vitara SUV.
Design of the new Maruti Suzuki MPV will be slightly different from the Innova Hycross. It might feature a newly-designed grille, headlamp clusters and bumper. Interestingly, it will be the first Maruti Suzuki car to come with ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) tech. The suite will offer safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor and a pre-collision system.
Similar to the Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti’s new MPV could get 6 airbags, traction control, electronic stability program, antilock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution as standard safety fitments. Buyers will have two seating configurations to choose from – 7 and 8-seats. While the former will come with two captain’s chairs with ottoman function for the second row, the latter will have bench seats for second and third rows.
Powertrain setup will include the same 2.0L, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle hybrid (184bhp, e-Drive transmission) and 2.0L petrol unit (172bhp/205Nm, a CVT gearbox) sourced from the Innova Hycross. The MPV with strong hybrid tech will deliver mileage above 23.24kmpl.
