Upcoming Nissan SUVs/MPV in India – All Key Details

Recently, Renault and Nissan announced 6 new locally produced models for the Indian market. Each one of them will have a sister product in the other partner company. The alliance will make a fresh investment of Rs 5,300 crore for its upcoming new products. The range will include the new-generation Renault Duster, 7-seater SUV Duster, Triber-based MPV from Nissan and two electric cars.

New Nissan MPV

Talking about Nissan India, the Japanese automaker will bring in the Renault Triber-based subcompact MPV. Design and styling of the new Nissan MPV will completely different from its donor sibling. We expect it to appear sportier and more rugged. Interior layout could be similar to the Kiger with features such as a digital instrument cluster, automatic AC unit, LED lighting and alloy wheels. Engine options will include a 1.0L petrol (72PS/98Nm) and 1.0L turbo petrol (100PS/160Nm).

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan has confirmed the X-Trail 7-seater SUV for India to challenge dominance of the Toyota Fortuner. Powering the model will be a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with mild hybrid tech and a 1.5L petrol with strong hybrid system. While the former makes power worth 163PS with 300Nm, the latter makes 204PS with 300Nm (2WD) and 213PS with 525Nm (AWD). The SUV will have ADAS suite along with a 10.8-inch HUD, a 12.3-inch touchscreen info unit, electronic parking brake, tri-zone climate control and more.

2 India-specific SUVs

The new Nissan India-specific SUVs are expected to be based on the third-generation Renault Duster. One of them will be have 5-seats layout and one will be its 7-seater version. The new 5-seater Nissan SUV will be positioned against the Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta. It will underpin the new CMF-B modular platform and it’s likely to hit roads sometime in 2024-25. The 7-seater SUV will borrow some of its design elements from the Dacia Bigster concept. It might witness a market launch in 2025.

Under Consideration

Nissan is also considering the Qashqai and Juke SUVs for India. In fact, the carmaker has started testing Nissan Qashqai in the country. The SUV can be had with either a 1.3L turbo petrol engine with a 12V mild hybrid tech or a 1.5L petrol motor with a 140kW electric motor. The Nissan Juke, on the other hand, comes with a 1.0L engine delivering power worth 115bhp with 200Nm of torque. Recently, the Nissan Ariya electric compact crossover has also been caught on camera in India.
