Mahindra XUV300 EV
Mahindra has officially announced to launch the new XUV300 based electric SUV in the country in the first half of 2023. Rumoured to be called the Mahindra XUV400, the new electric SUV will be based on the Mahindra Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA). The MESMA platform is built ground up locally at the company’s facility. The platform is cpmpatible enough to accommodate different body styles ranging across different segments.
The new Mahindra XUV300 EV is likely to be offered with two battery options – an entry-level with 40kWh battery pack and a bigger battery. The entry-level variant is likely to offer a range close to 300-350km, while the extended variant could offer close to 400km range.
New Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra will launch the new-gen Scorpio SUV before the end of 2022. Likely to be unveiled in June 2022, the new Mahindra Scorpio will come with all-new design, feature-loaded interior and new engine-gearbox combinations. I is likely to grow in size and looks bigger than the XUV700. The SUV will be offered with two seating layout – 6 and 7 – with former having captain seats in the second-row.
It is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The higher variants will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain along with terrain modes & drive modes.
Maruti-Toyota SUV
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is working on a new SUV, which is expected to be launched during festive season. The new model will be based on Toyota’s locally developed TNGA-B (or DNGA). It will share the styling cues from bigger Toyota SUVs including the RAV4 and the Corolla Cross. If reports are to be believed, the new SUV could be revealed around June or July 2022.
The new Toyota-Maruti SUV will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant number 2 in Karnataka. The new Maruti-Toyota SUV are likely to be offered with two petrol engines with hybrid drive unit. While the first model will come with a mild hybrid tech, the second will have a stronger hybrid system with higher power and better fuel economy. To achieve competitive pricing, most of components for the hybrid system will be manufactured in India.
Honda Compact SUV
Honda has officially announced to launch a new compact SUV in India in 2023. It is expected to be unveiled in the first half of 2023. The new model will be designed and developed to meet the market specific requirements. The new Honda compact SUV is likely to share its platform and features with the City sedan.
The new Honda SUV is likely to share the engine options with the City sedan. Adding to it, the SUV will also get a hybrid powertrain, featuring a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated Atkinson Cycle petrol engine that’s coupled to two electric motors.
5-Door Mahindra Thar
Mahindra will launch the long-wheelbase version of the Thar lifestyle SUV in the country in 2023. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will be more profitable than the 3-door model. Mahindra could also work on the suspension setup to improve the overall ride quality. Mahindra will also offer lighter steering in the 5-door model.
It will be based on the modified version of the existing platform. It will have longer wheelbase, and extended body to add new rear passengers’ doors. Adding to it, the SUV will offer a larger boot space. The new 5-door Thar is likely to get a 180mStallion Pro turbo petrol engine, which will be more powerful and faster than the current model. It is expected that the new Thar could achieve a speed of up to 180kmph. The company could tweak the diesel engine to produce up to 160bhp of power.
