5 Big New Car Launches In September, 2020

The festive season is usually the time when most carmakers launch new products and models (including special editions) in the market. The 2020 festive season will witness big launches from mass-market manufacturers like Kia Motors and Toyota. Here’s a list of new cars and SUVs scheduled to arrive in September, 2020.

1. Kia Sonet

Kia Motors is all set to bring in its third product in the Indian market. Called the Kia Sonet, the model will mark the carmaker’s entry in the subcompact SUV space, which is currently ruled by Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. The Sonet model lineup will have two trims – Tech Line (5 variants) and GT Line (1 variant) – and three engine options – 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo-petrol and 1.5L diesel. There will be five gearboxes on offer – a 5-speed MT, a 6-speed MT, a 6-speed AT, iMT and 7-speed DCT. Kia’s new compact SUV has been packed with several segment first features including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-speaker Bose audio system, ventilated front seats, front parking sensors, LED sound mood light and more.

2. Toyota Urban Cruiser

The Japanese carmaker will roll out its rebadged and re-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki car in the country – Toyota Urban Cruiser. Based on the Vitara Brezza, the new Toyota compact SUV looks slightly thanks to its Fortuner-inspired grille. The front bumper, air dam and fog lamp assembly have also been revised. Save for the brighter interior and new upholstery for seats, the Urban Cruiser might offer Vitara Brezza like interior and features. In fact, the powertrain system will remain unchanged. Under the hood, the model will feature the Vitara Brezza’s 104bhp, 1.5L K15B petrol motor with Suzuki’s SHVS mild hybrid system. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. Prices of the Toyota Urban Cruiser are likely to be more or less similar to the Vitara Brezza.

3. Toyota Innova Crysta CNG

Toyota Innova Crysta model lineup will soon be expanded with a new CNG variant. While its official launch date and details are yet to be revealed by the company, it’s reported to hit roads in the month of September. The CNG kit might be offered on the entry-level G trim with a manual gearbox. The model will use a 2.7L, 4-cylinder petrol engine with a CNG kit. The former produces a peak power of 166PS and 245Nm of torque. In terms of design and features, the MPV’s new bi-fuel variant will be exactly similar to the regular petrol model. Compared to the petrol base variant, the Innova Crysta CNG will be around Rs 80,000 to 1 lakh more expensive.

4. Audi Q2

The much-awaited Audi Q2 SUV will make its way to India in September, 2020. It will be the smallest and most affordable SUV from the German carmaker in the country. In the company’s Indian product portfolio, the Q2 will be placed below the Audi Q3. The overall length, width and height of the vehicle stand at 4191m, 1794mm and 1508mm respectively. The SUV underpins Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform and share its design bits with the bigger siblings. Here, it will be offered with a 2.0L turbo petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The motor makes a top power of 190bhp with 320Nm of torque. It can accelerate 0 to 100kmph in 6.5 seconds and offer a top speed of 228kmph. Drivetrain duties will be carried out by Audi’s Quattro AWD system. Prices of the Audi Q2 are likely to start from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom).

5. Skoda Rapid Automatic

The Czech carmaker is ready to bring in the automatic version of the Rapid sedan in September, 2020. The model will use the BS6-compliant 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine borrowed from the new Volkswagen Vento sedan. The motor pushes out a peak power of 109bhp and 175Nm of torque. The sedan’s automatic variant will come with a 6-speed torque convertor gearbox. Visually, the Rapid automatic will be exactly similar to its manual version that was revised early this year. The 2020 Skoda Rapid received BS6 engine along with minor changes including LED DRLs, clubber alloy wheels, new trunk spoiler and more.
