German luxury carmaker, Audi has recently introduced the flagship Q8 SUV and the A8 L sedan in India. Now, the company is readying multiple new cars including the long-awaited Audi Q2 for the Indian market. First unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Q2 will be Audi’s smallest and most affordable SUV in India.
To be positioned below Audi Q3, the upcoming new Q2 compact SUV measures 4,191mm in length, 1,794mm in width and 1,508mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,601mm. The small SUV comes with a ground clearance of 200mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle rugged Indian roads.
It is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform that also underpins VW Golf, T-ROC and the Tiguan. In terms of styling, the Audi Q2 shares most of the design elements from bigger siblings. It comes with aggressively-styled front fascia with a single-frame grille, prominent LED headlamps with LED DRLs and sharper angles. The C-pillar has R8-style blade, while the rear has wide tailgate and LED tail-lamps.
The new Audi Q2 offers a luggage carrying capacity of 405-litres, which can be further extended up to 1,050-litres by folding its rear 40:20 split seats. The neatly designed dashboard has an MMI infotainment system, and virtual cockpit along with head-up display. It has premium touches like contrasting stitching, soft-touch plastics, and leather trims. In terms of safety and security, the new model gets pedestrian and collision-prevention automatic brakes, electronic stability control (ESC), cruise control, active lane assist with camera, traffic sign recognition technology, park assist, air bags, and several others.
The India-spec Audi Q2 compact SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 190bhp and 320Nm of torque. The new model is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 6.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 228kmph. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via Audi’s Quattro AWD system and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The media report claims that Audi India is likely to take pre-bookings for the Q2 SUV in August 2020. It is likely to be priced around Rs 35-40 lakh (ex-showroom).
