We reported earlier that Honda could introduce the City hybrid version in India. Ahead of India launch, Honda has introduced the new City RS with an Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid version in Malaysia. This hybrid version is available with the 1.5L naturally-aspirated petrol engine.
The new Honda City RS i-MMD version will be launched in Malaysia in the end of this year. It will be the world debut as no other market has City with a hybrid powertrain. The new i-MMD powertrain also known as e:HEV is already available in the global Fit/Jazz. The new powertrain is claimed to offer high efficiency, electrification combined with direct and smooth response. In a press statement, Honda stated that the new City RS hybrid powertrain is equivalent to a 2.5-litre powertrain (Currently Powers the Toyota Camry).
The powertrain comprises of a 109 PS electric motor offering 253Nm of torque, as the 1.5L petrol engine works as a range extender. The new Jazz with same unit accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 9.4 seconds before hitting a top speed of 175kmph. The new Jazz has 3 driving modes – EV, Hybrid and Engine.
The regular version is powered by a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine that also powers the India-spec model. This engine churns out 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. In terms of features, the new Honda City RS hybrid gets lanewatch system, 16-inch dual-tone alloys, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED Tail-lamps, electric parking brake and others.
