4 Indian SUVs To Launch In 1st Half of 2021 – Tata, Mahindra

Several new car launches have been planned for early 2021. Two Indian brands – Tata and Mahindra have also lined up 4 important SUVs for the first half of 2021. While Tata Motors will bring in the Gravitas 7-seater SUV and HBX concept based mini SUV, Mahindra will launch the new-generation XUV500 and Scorpio.

The upcoming Tata Gravitas, which is essentially the bigger version of the Harrier, will hit roads between January- March, 2021. The 7-seater SUV will share most of its design elements, features and engine with the Harrier. Dimensionally, however, the Gravitas will be longer, wider and taller than its 5-seater sibling. Noticeable cosmetic changes will also be made to the production model. In fact, Tata might equip it with a bunch of new comfort, connectivity and safety features.

The Tata HBX mini SUV concept was previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo. Its production-ready version (which might be named ‘Tata Hornbill’) is reported to unveil in May, 2021. Similar to Tata’s new breed car, the HBX will feature Impact 2.0 design language. After the Altroz premium hatchback, it will be the second model to be designed on Alfa platform. Engine setup might include a 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.2L turbo petrol. Both manual and AMT gearboxes could be on offer.

The new-generation Mahindra XUV500 will be the first big launch from the home-grown carmaker next year. The SUV will witness significant changes in terms of design, features and engine mechanism. One of the major upgrade will come in the form of level 1 autonomous technology (ASAD). The 2021 XUV500 will also receive dual-tone interior, Mercedes-Benz like touchscreen and electronic parking brake. There will be two engine options – a new 2.0L mStallion petrol (190bhp) and more powerful 2.2L mHawk diesel (180bhp).

The 2021 Mahindra Scorpio will come with the same powertrains – 2.0L mStallion petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel. Though, the power outputs of both motors will be different. While the gasoline unit will produce 150bhp with 320Nm, the oil burner will deliver 130bhp with 320Nm. The SUV will be designed on the modified version of the existing ladder-on-frame chassis. Compared to the current generation, the new Scorpio will be bigger and better equipped.
