2020 Mercedes GLS Launch

Mercedes-Benz has officially announced to launch the new-gen GLS SUV in the Indian market on June 17, 2020. The launch date has been announced by Martin Schwenk, CEO and MD of Mercedes-Benz India via social media.

Similar to the previous-gen GLS, the new-gen Mercedes GLS will be introduced in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. It will be assembled in India at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune. The new model is expected to be priced around Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).

In terms of styling, the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS features a bolder profile with more prominent octagonal grille and multibeam LED headlamps (112 LEDs per headlamp and DRLs with 3 LED segments). The lower bumper has large air inlet grille and a chrome-plated under-guard in the front apron, and two power domes on the bonnet. At the back, the upcoming new GLS wwill get two-piece LED tail-lamps with a 3D pattern, a simpler bumper with underbody cladding, silver skid plate and dual exhaust mufflers with chrome bezels.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is bigger than the outgoing model. It is 77mm longer and 22mm wider and has 60mm longer wheelbase. The increase in dimensions helps the brand to create more space inside the cabin. For the first time, the GLS SUV will be offered with a 6-seater option with two luxury individual seats for the second row.

Inside the cabin, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS has all-new dashboard that is dominated by a 12.3-inch digital instrument console and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The luxury SUV also gets the brand’s new MBUX system with rear-seat entertainment along with two 11.6 displays for entertainment. The SUV also gets new driver assistance system, heated seats and 5-zone climate control.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS is likely to receive a new 3.0-litre petrol engine that produces 367bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. The diesel version will feature the 3.0L engine that is capable of producing 286bhp and 600Nm of torque. A 9-speed automatic gearbox will be offered as standard and Mercedes all-wheel-drive system.
