More Royal Enfield 650cc Bikes To Launch In Coming Years

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Scrambler

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have been doing really well for the Chennai-based bikemaker in domestic and global market. Compared to several smaller displacement single-cylinder offerings, the RE 650 twins are more affordable. While the Interceptor 650 costs between Rs 2.64 lakh – Rs 2.85 lakh, the Continental GT 650 has been priced between Rs 2.80 lakh – Rs 3.01 lakh (all, ex-showroom).

Now, the company is planning to further expand its 650 motorcycle range with new models in the coming years. Speaking to carandbike, Royal Enfield CEO Vinod Dasari has revealed the company will bring in several new models based on the 650cc platform. As of now, there is no clarity whether it will be a Scrambler, a Roadster or a Bobber motorcycle.

If reports are to be believed, Royal Enfield might bring in a 650 Scrambler bike. In terms of pricing, the Royal Enfield 650 Scrambler will be placed below the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. As of now, the product details are scanty. Though, it might be offered with the BS6-compliant 648cc, parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled fuel injected engine that does duty in the RE 650 twins. The motor pushes out a peak power of 46.bhp at 7,150rpm and 52Nm of torque at 5,250rpm. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed gearbox.

Besides this, the company is planning to launch two new motorcycles in 12 months for the next 3-4 years. Royal Enfield is reportedly working on a more powerful version of the Himalayan adventure motorcycle. It’s likely to feature an updated and slightly larger displacement engine. Rumour has it that the RE Himalayan will also get a lighter and more affordable variant with 250cc capacity engine.

As of now, the bikemaker is getting ready to launch the all-new Royal Enfield Meteor 350 (new-generation Thunderbird 350X) sometime next month. At the heart of the motorcycle will be a new BS6-compliant engine benefited with the new SOHC system and fuel injection technology. Compared to the Thunderbird 350, the Meteor is likely to be more powerful.

While its official power figure is yet to be revealed, the new 350cc engine is likely to deliver power close to 22bhp – 24bhp. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox. Major design changes will be made to the bike. The RE Meteor will sit on an all-new double cradle chassis and carry a round headlamp with chrome bezel at the front end. Some of its key features will include a teardrop shaped fuel tank, new indicators, a blacked out engine case, a wider seat, V-shaped alloy wheels and revised footpegs.
