New Maruti S Cross 2017 Facelift India

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will receive a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 104bhp and 225Nm of torque

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce a new in-house developed 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine will be first introduced in the Ciaz sedan in the coming weeks, which will later offered in new-generation Ertiga MPV. A new media report claims that the 2019 Maruti S-CROSS will be the third model to receive the new diesel engine. The outgoing model is powered by a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid system called SHVS. The previous model was also available with 1.6-litre MJD diesel engine, which was discontinued due to high price and low demand.

The new 1.5-litre diesel engine will come as a replacement for the 1.3-litre engine. The Fiat-sourced engine won’t receive an update to meet the upcoming new BS6 emission norms and will be phased out in April 2020. The new 4-cylinder diesel engine is reportedly to offer 94bhp of power and 225Nm of torque. The existing 1.3L unit churns out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, which means the new engine will be 5bhp more powerful and 25Nm torquier. The new diesel engine is expected to be equally fuel efficient to the 1.3l engine.

This engine will initially be offered in BS4 emission norms and will be upgraded to comply with BS6 norms in 2020. It is yet to be known whether the new S-Cross will receive the BS6 ready engine or in BS4 emission form. It is expected that the new S-Cross with 1.5-litre diesel engine won’t receive a mild-hybrid system. Instead of the 5-speed manual, the new S-Cross will be fitted to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is expected that the S-Cross with the 1.5-litre diesel engine will receive a price hike on comparison to the existing model. The prices will further increase post BS6 emission norms. Maruti Suzuki has recently said that the BS6 emission norms will increase the prices of diesel cars by about 1.5 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross directly rivals the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and recently launched Nissan Kicks.
