The Lexus RX 450h SUV will be the first car from Toyota’s luxury vehicle division in the Indian market.
In India, the Lexus RX450h five-seater SUV will be initially launched with hybrid powertrain only.
Toyota’s luxury arm, Lexus will mark its official entry in the Indian market on 24th March 2017. The Lexus RX 450h, Lexus ES300h and Lexus LX will be first three models from the luxury division of the Japanese carmaker in India. Bookings for all three cars have already commenced across the country. Lexus will set up its first dealership in Mumbai that will be operation prior to official launch of these models.
In India, the Lexus line-up will be same as the Japanese-spec models. Since the imported units won’t have India maps configuration, the first batch of the cars will be devoided of navigation system. The product here we are talking about is Lexus RX450h SUV that will be initially launched only with a hybrid powertrain. The company will also bring in diesel version of the vehicle at a later stage. Initially, the RX450h will be imported to India via CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route from Japan. However, the company also plans to assemble its products at Toyota’s Bidadi facility in Karnataka. This hybrid SUV will be a beneficiary of the central government’s FAME tax incentive. However, in other states (except Delhi) it will cost much higher as an imported unit. In India, this hybrid car could be priced around Rs 1.17 crore. At this price, it will lock horns against German rivals such as Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5.
The market launch of this hybrid car will take place on 24th March 2017 in an event in Delhi. However, the company hasn’t communicated this to us.

At the heart of the RX 450h is a 3.5-litre, V6 petrol motor coupled to an electric motor. The hybrid system delivers a top power of 308bhp and 361Nm of torque. It can cover 0-70 miles per hour in 7.7 seconds. Transmission duties are performed by an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which is already used on the Toyota Prius hybrid. While the global-spec fourth-generation RX 450h comes with two drivetrains – Front Wheel and All-Wheel, the India-spec version might have an AWD setup.
This five seater luxury SUV sits on a 2,790mm of wheelbase, and is 4,890mm long, 1,895mm wide and 1,690mm tall. The SUV’s 2017 model is 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 35mm lower than the previous generation model, while the wheelbase has been increased by 50mm. The car has a ground clearance of 195mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
Wearing a new Lexus corporate “spindle” grille, automatic headlamps and 18-inch alloys (20-inch optional), the 2017 RX 450h looks quite aggressive. Inside, the SUV has a premium appeal with solid materials, “T” shape dashboard with aluminum and wood inserts. Feature-wise, it’s quite a loaded one.
The SUV comes equipped with a Bluetooth-enabled audio system with 9-speakers, 8-inch touchscreen display with an integrated rear camera monitor, an electronic park brake, 10-way power-adjustable front seats. a 40/20/40-split and reclining rear seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, etc.
The new Lexus car brims with a range of premium/luxury packages that include leather upholstery, a heated wood-and-leather trimmed steering wheel, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, powered thigh extension for the driver’s seat, etc. For passenger safety provision, there are dual front, front knee, front and rear side, and side curtain airbags, and traction and stability control system, EBD (Electronic Brake-Force Distribution) and tire-pressure monitoring system.
Furthermore, it also gets pre-collision automation with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, LED headlamps, intelligent high-beams, lane departure warning and lane keep assist as an optional safety features.
Lexus RX 450h five-seater SUV will come with a 3.5-litre, V6 petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. With Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5 in its sight, it could be priced around Rs 1.17 crore.
